Typically, Network Administrators have had to juggle
several types of security software in order to monitor multiple aspects of their network
security. In the event of an attack, it was not uncommon for Network
Administrators to spend more time in an effort to determine what,
if any, damage did occur, than it would take to repair the damage that
was actually done. In today's issue, we have an interview with the
creators of a powerful solution to this problem.
Recently the editorial staff here at NetworkNewz had the opportunity
to speak to Greg Gilliom, CEO of Network ICE and Paul Proctor, CTO
of CyberSafe; both of whom are visionaries with respect to the
direction that network security is heading. Their new product, CentraxICE, is a hybrid security solution that combines some of the
most effective security software available from both Network ICE and
CyberSafe, packaged with a command console that allows for centralized
management. This is a scalable, cost effective solution to your network
security concerns. Be sure to check out this powerful new security
solution and the following informative interview.

NetworkNewz: "Is there anything that you feel you would like to
bring to the public's attention regarding how easy and effective the
console is to implement?"
Paul Proctor:
"We would like to point out that, in the enterprise,
you need to have comprehensive monitoring. What we provide through
the CentraxICE software bundle is a hybrid capability that includes
both the network and the host side for comprehensive monitoring for
both internal and external misuse. CentraxICE checks file integrity
along with network and host monitoring, all of which is integrated
through a single common console.

The thing to keep in mind here is that this product has the
capability
of being deployed to hundreds of servers and potentially thousands of
workstations. One of the benefits of CentraxICE software is that the
CyberSafe console was designed to scale up to hundreds of servers
and the Network ICE product was designed to scale up to hundreds of
servers, so we've got that covered. And yes, it is easy to use."
NetworkNewz: "What about data forensics; the ability to look back and
see exactly who did what?"
Greg Gilliom: "The CentraxICE product maintains a database that can
extend back for weeks, months or years; as long as you have been
monitoring (the network). The database maintains both statistics, what
we call signatures or blurts, and it maintains an archive of the raw
data. This can later be referenced in order to do things like damage
assessment and attack anticipation. What this means is that you can do
trending over
time in order to determine (that you have) a problem before you ever
experience a problem."

NetworkNewz: "What led up to the alliance between CyberSafe and
Network ICE to produce CentraxICE?"
Paul Proctor: "There is an independent testing group in Europe called
the NSS group. They had conducted testing on all of the intrusion
detection systems that are available and had concluded that the Network
ICE intrusion detection system was the best available on the market.
They had also concluded that the Centrax product was the most
comprehensive console available on the market. At the same time there
was a distributor in Europe, who was looking for a hybrid solution, that
had also conducted an independent analysis (independent from the NSS
group) and had come to the same conclusion; the Network ICE and Centrax
products are the best in their field. This distributor contacted both
of our companies to create a product bundle, and that bundle we have
branded CentraxICE."
